Job Description
A rewarding contract opportunity is available for a Sign Language Interpreter eager to make a meaningful impact in an elementary school environment near Lakewood, WA. The ideal candidate will provide sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpretation in classrooms and other educational settings, supporting communication for D/deaf and Hard of Hearing (D/HH) students. This position ensures compliance with IDEA, ADA, and other applicable legal requirements, and may involve working alongside educators to help facilitate learning, as well as connecting students with staff and community members.
Key Qualifications:
- Successful completion of an Interpreter Training Program
- Minimum RID or EIPA assessment score of 4.0 or above (as mandated by Washington State law)
- Valid Washington State Drivers License or demonstrated mobility
- Prior experience in school settings is preferred
- Ability to interpret effectively in various educational situations
Responsibilities:
- Interpret sign to voice and voice to sign for D/HH students in classroom and educational settings
- Foster open communication between students, staff, teachers, and the wider school community
- Assist educators through instructional support activities, as needed
- Uphold standards and procedures dictated by IDEA, ADA, and district policies
- Facilitate the inclusion and education of D/HH students
Assignment Details:
- Hours: 31.5 hours per week
- Contract dates: September 3rd, 2025 June 23rd, 2026
- Placement in a single elementary school
