Make a meaningful impact supporting students as a skilled Sign Language Interpreter working in an educational environment near Lafayette, TN! This contract opportunity lets you foster communication and create inclusive experiences for students and faculty who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Desired Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and comfortable facilitating communication in classroom settings.
- Previous experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter, ideally within schools or educational settings.
- Knowledge of Deaf culture and best practices for ensuring accessibility.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, staff, and families.
- Familiarity with IEP processes and adapting to individual student requirements is a plus.
- Valid credentials or certification (such as EIPA, RID, or state licensure) as required by local regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom lessons, discussions, and activities between students, teachers, and peers using ASL and/or other required modalities.
- Provide clear, accurate interpretations to ensure students can fully participate in all aspects of the school day.
- Collaborate with educators to support student progress and adapt to specialized communication needs.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interactions.
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to developing communication strategies for individual students.
- Stay current with professional best practices and any updates in educational interpretation methods.
