Job Description

Make a real difference in students' lives by providing essential sign language interpreting services within an educational environment. This contract role is based near Winston-Salem, NC, with both on-site and virtual opportunities, providing flexibility for the right candidate.

Your interpreting skills will enable students who are deaf or hard of hearing to fully participate in school life, both in and out of the classroom. Collaborate with educators and support staff to deliver clear, accurate communication that helps create an inclusive and supportive academic experience.

What were looking for:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and fluency as a sign language interpreter
  • Certification as an interpreter (such as EIPA, RID, or similar preferred)
  • Previous experience interpreting in a school setting is highly desirable
  • Strong ability to adapt communication style for a variety of ages and learning needs
  • Professionalism, reliability, and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Openness to both in-person and virtual assignments

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide real-time sign language interpretation for students during classroom lessons, extracurricular activities, meetings, and other school functions
  • Foster clear communication between students, teachers, and peers
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics in all interactions
  • Adapt to diverse settings and adjust interpretation methods as needed
  • Work collaboratively with school staff and participate in relevant meetings, when appropriate
