Key Qualifications:

  • Certification or licensure as a sign language interpreter (such as EIPA, RID, or state equivalent)
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Prior experience working in an educational or school setting is highly desirable
  • Strong understanding of interpreter ethics and confidentiality standards
  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Ability to adapt interpretation style to meet individual student and classroom needs
  • Comfortable collaborating with teachers, specialists, and staff

Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate ASL interpretation for students, staff, and families in classrooms, meetings, and various school-related events
  • Facilitate communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their peers and instructors
  • Support student participation in academic, social, and extracurricular activities
  • Maintain professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality at all times
  • Assist with implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) as related to interpreting needs
  • Collaborate with educational teams to ensure accessibility and inclusion
  • Document and communicate relevant observations or concerns with appropriate personnel
