Job Description

An exciting contract opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to make a meaningful impact within an educational setting near Kansas City, KS. This in-person or hybrid position involves providing vital communication support for students with hearing loss as well as those who use alternative methods of communication within specialized programs. Your expertise will directly support student access and engagement across educational environments.

Key Qualifications:

  • Valid certification or licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI level or higher required)
  • Experience in a K-12 or educational setting strongly preferred
  • Ability to assess and adapt interpretation for students with varying communication needs, including non-verbal or limited verbal communication
  • Strong understanding of Deaf culture, ASL, and related interpreting best practices
  • Able to work on-site at least four days each week (hybrid schedule considered)
  • Minimum of 0-3 years of interpreting experience (additional consideration/pay for 4+ and 7+ years)
  • Committed to supporting inclusive, accessible learning environments

Responsibilities:

  • Provide clear, accurate sign language interpretation for students, staff, and school functions
  • Support students in SAILS and STEPs programs with individualized communication needs
  • Participate in student evaluations, IEP meetings, and educational planning when required
  • Collaborate with teachers and support teams to facilitate student access to instruction
  • Adapt interpretation methods to suit various classroom settings and student preferences
