Qualifications:

  • Valid Illinois Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) license is required
  • Previous experience in educational settings, particularly working with middle school students, is highly desirable
  • Strong proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and excellent English communication skills
  • Ability to adapt interpretation style to meet diverse student needs
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism within the school community
  • Any district- or state-specific credentials (such as PEL or particular certifications) are a plus

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately facilitate communication between students, staff, and peers in classrooms and school activities using sign language
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and support staff to promote student access to the general curriculum
  • Support inclusive participation in academic and extracurricular activities
  • Maintain detailed and confidential records regarding student progress and services provided
  • Serve as an advocate to ensure that students communication needs are met at all times

Compensation for this position ranges from $23.00 to $40.00. Eligible candidates may also receive healthcare benefits, housing, and meals/incidentals. Full details of our healthcare benefits plan can be found here. This posting is open for 60 days after the posting date.
