Job Description
Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting elementary students in an educational setting as a Sign Language Interpreter and American Sign Language (ASL) Teacher. In this itinerant, onsite position, youll travel between schools near Joliet and Mount Prospect, IL, facilitating access and inclusion for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Both part-time and full-time hours are available, giving you the flexibility to tailor your schedule while making an impact.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Proficient fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter or ASL Teacher, ideally in a school environment
- Ability to adapt quickly to new classrooms and collaborate with various teams
- Commitment to supporting diverse learners in an elementary setting
- Relevant certifications or licensure required for educational interpreting in Illinois
Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken communication for students, staff, and families using ASL
- Deliver instruction or support to ensure students can access the curriculum fully
- Travel between multiple elementary campuses as part of an itinerant role
- Work closely with educators and other professionals to implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment
