Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational environments
  • Background or training as a Teacher with a focus in ASL preferred
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach
  • Ability to adapt to various classroom settings within an elementary school
  • Appropriate licensure/certification for interpreting within a school setting, as required by state regulations

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clear, accurate sign language interpretation for students and staff during classroom instruction and related activities
  • Support students educational, social, and emotional growth through effective communication
  • Collaborate with general education and special education teachers to ensure full access to curriculum and school life
  • Travel between classrooms as an itinerant professional, adapting to diverse instructional needs
  • Participate in team meetings, IEP processes, and professional development activities
