Qualifications / Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Valid certification or license as a Sign Language Interpreter (such as EIPA, RID, or state-specific certification)
  • Previous experience interpreting in educational settings preferred
  • Strong understanding of Deaf culture and the unique communication needs of students
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity
  • Ability to adapt interpreting style to various learning environments

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate clear communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their teachers, peers, and other staff members
  • Interpret classroom lessons, school activities, meetings, and other educational events
  • Collaborate with teachers and educational specialists to support student learning and participation
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
