Job Description

A full-time Sign Language Interpreter is needed for a K-12 school setting in Huntsville, AL. This is a contract position for the current school year (CSY) and requires onsite work. The role involves providing interpreting services to support students across all K-12 grade levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate effective communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their teachers, peers, and school staff
  • Ensure accurate and clear interpretation of spoken language to American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa in classroom and school environments
  • Collaborate with educators and support staff to enhance accessibility and promote inclusion for students requiring sign language interpretation
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in accordance with school policies and ethical standards

Qualifications:

  • Valid Alabama Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) license
  • Experience interpreting in K-12 educational settings preferred
  • Strong knowledge of ASL and deaf culture
  • Ability to work full-time onsite throughout the school year
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
