Job Description

Enhance the educational journey for a 9th-grade student as a contracted American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter positioned part-time at a high school near Houston, TX. This opportunity is uniquely structured for Fridays only, perfectly suited for professionals seeking a flexible arrangement or supplementary assignment. As a vital member of a collaborative team supporting students in a behavioral classroom setting, you will facilitate access to instruction, while working closely with another language facilitator covering Monday through Thursday.

Key Qualifications:

  • Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) with a strong background in school-based interpreting
  • Experience supporting students with hearing differences, including cochlear implants and assistive listening devices
  • Familiarity with high school or behavioral classroom environments preferred
  • Current licensure/certification to interpret in educational settings
  • Ability to foster an inclusive, supportive, and respectful learning environment
  • Reliable for a consistent part-time schedule (Fridays, with possible additional days as a substitute)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Responsibilities:

  • Provide sign language interpretation for instructional activities (excluding lunch and arrival/dismissal times)
  • Support a 9th-grade student in adapting to transitions and maximizing classroom participation
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards
  • Collaborate with educational staff and another language facilitator to ensure continuity of services
  • Serve as a substitute for your counterpart when necessary
