Job Description
Make a meaningful impact in education by supporting a 9th-grade student in a behavioral classroom setting as an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter. This contract opportunity begins August 12, 2026, and continues through May 27, 2027, with a weekly schedule of approximately 32.5 hours in an engaging and dynamic high school environment near Houston, TX. You will play a vital role during instructional periods to empower the student, who utilizes cochlear implants, hearing aids, and an assistive listening device, and is transitioning from a Residential Day School Program.
Desired Skills and Certifications:
- Current national certification as a sign language interpreter (must hold at least one of the four recognized SLI certifications)
- Demonstrated expertise interpreting in a classroom or educational setting
- Ability to support students with diverse hearing needs, including those who use hearing technology
- Flexibility and sensitivity in adapting communication for students transitioning between learning environments
- Exceptional collaboration skills to work smoothly with educators and support staff
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken content using ASL throughout all instructional periods (not required during lunch, arrival, or dismissal times)
- Ensure communication access for educational material, activities, and peer interactions
- Assist the students effective participation and engagement in classroom tasks and discussions
- Partner with teachers, aides, and behavioral specialists to nurture the students academic and social growth
- Maintain a professional, confidential, and student-focused approach to interpreting
