Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting a vibrant high school environment as a Sign Language Interpreter. You'll facilitate communication for a 9th-grade student in a behavioral class, working closely during instructional periods to ensure meaningful access to learning and classroom participation. The student utilizes cochlear implants, hearing aids, and an ALD device and is acclimating after a transition back from a Residential Day School Program. With a consistent daytime schedule, your skills will be essential in making a real difference every day.

Qualifications:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings
• Familiarity with working alongside students who use assistive hearing technologies (cochlear implants, hearing aids, ALD devices)
• Ability to foster positive, professional relationships with students and school staff
• Valid licensure or certification in Sign Language Interpreting
• Experience supporting students within behavioral classrooms is preferred
• Must demonstrate adaptability and sensitivity to the unique communication needs of students navigating transitions

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide clear, accurate interpretation between English and ASL for a student during all instructional times
• Collaborate with educators and support staff to create an inclusive academic environment
• Adjust interpreting style as needed to support the student's learning and social integration
• Maintain confidentiality and advocacy for student needs at all times
• Utilize a team approach to address challenges and maximize student independence
