Bring your expertise in sign language interpretation to a dynamic educational environment for the 2026-2027 school year! An exciting contract opportunity awaits qualified interpreters who thrive in a school setting and are passionate about supporting students with hearing impairments. This full-time position runs from August 10, 2026, through May 27, 2027, and is conveniently scheduled at 37.5 hours per week onsite.
Desired Qualifications:
- Current license as a Sign Language Interpreter in the state of North Carolina
- Experience working in K-12 school settings strongly preferred
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with the ability to adapt to varying communication needs
- Demonstrated commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and student advocacy
- Strong collaboration and communication skills for working with teachers, staff, and families
- Flexibility to respond effectively to student and classroom needs
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate clear, accurate communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their peers, teachers, and school staff
- Interpret classroom instruction, student-teacher interactions, and school events in real time
- Maintain ethical interpreting standards and adhere to student privacy regulations
- Support educational access and full participation for assigned student(s) on your caseload
- Participate in team meetings and collaborate on Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals
- Complete documentation as required by school policy
