Desired Qualifications & Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Valid certification such as EIPA, RID, or state licensure (or eligibility to obtain)
- Previous experience interpreting in K-12 educational settings strongly preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, and professionalism
- Comfort working one-on-one and in group classroom settings
- Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, staff, and families
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate, real-time interpretation between spoken English and ASL in classrooms and throughout the school environment
- Support students' understanding and participation during lessons, group work, assemblies, and extracurricular activities
- Work closely with teachers and support staff to facilitate a positive learning atmosphere
- Clarify misunderstood concepts and advocate for effective communication
- Contribute to the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process as needed
- Adapt interpreting style to suit students language preferences and learning styles
