Job Description

Make a real difference by supporting a students educational journey as a full-time Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) in a school-based, 1:1 setting. This contract role offers the opportunity to work closely with a student at Chaffee Elementary School, ensuring seamless communication and access throughout the school day. Youll build rapport within an inclusive environment while fostering student growth and supporting learning teams in Huntsville.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 sign language interpreting services for a student during all school hours (8:00 AM 2:30 PM), following the outlined academic schedule
  • Adapt interpreting methods to meet the individual needs of the student and support IEP goals
  • Collaborate effectively with teachers, school staff, and the educational team to facilitate a supportive learning environment
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and clear documentation as required
  • Demonstrate reliable and consistent attendance for the duration of the contract (ASAP May 28, 2027)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Alabama SLI/Interpreter license or permit (required for consideration)
  • Nationally recognized interpreting certification such as RID, EIPA, or BEI is a plus
  • Experience working in a school setting and/or providing interpreting services for students
  • Previous 1:1 student support strongly preferred
  • Exceptional communication skills, reliability, and the ability to work the full contracted schedule without modification
  • Commitment to supporting student success through effective collaboration and consistent presence
