Job Description

Step into a vital role supporting Deaf and Hard of Hearing students as a Sign Language Interpreter in a school-based setting. This full-time, onsite position offers the opportunity to provide interpreting services in American Sign Language (ASL), making a significant impact on students educational experiences throughout the week.

Key Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must possess a current license or permit to practice as an interpreter or transliterator, issued by the Alabama Licensure Board for Interpreters and Transliterators (ALBIT). For more information on licensure, visit the ALBIT credentialing page.
  • Familiarity with educational settings and experience working with students preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with education professionals, students, and families.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver clear and accurate interpreting services between ASL and English for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students during school activities, classes, and events.
  • Adapt communication as needed to match student and classroom requirements.
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to help facilitate classroom participation and contribute to Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings as support.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional standards in compliance with school policies and interpreter ethics.
