Job Description

Make a difference by supporting high school students in an educational setting as a Sign Language Interpreter. This onsite, contract position offers the opportunity to work closely with students, fostering communication and accessibility within the classroom environment. With a manageable schedule of 18 hours per week, youll play a crucial role in helping deaf and hard-of-hearing students thrive academically and socially.

Key Qualifications:

  • Hold a valid Illinois Sign Language Interpreter license
  • Experience working with high school students preferred
  • Ability to interpret and transliterate between American Sign Language (ASL) and English
  • Familiarity with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and educational accommodations a plus
  • Strong communication skills and professional discretion

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Interpret classroom lessons, discussions, and school events for deaf and hard-of-hearing students
  • Collaborate with educators and support staff to implement effective communication strategies
  • Support students' participation in all aspects of school life, including academic and extracurricular activities
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation as required by school policies
  • Uphold confidentiality and comply with district, state, and professional standards
