Step into a meaningful contract opportunity providing vital support to students as a Sign Language Interpreter for the upcoming academic year. This role will be based onsite at a K-12 setting near Hanahan, SC, with specific locations to be determined within the district. The assignment runs from August 5th, 2026, through June 4th, 2027, offering a steady schedule of 37.5 hours per week.
Bring your Sign Language interpreting expertise to this dynamic school environment, playing a key role in facilitating communication and fostering inclusion for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students.
Desired Experience & Qualifications:
- Valid South Carolina Sign Language Interpreter (SC SLI) certification required.
- Demonstrated skill in interpreting in educational settings, preferably within K-12 schools.
- Strong command of American Sign Language (ASL) and understanding of Deaf culture.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with educators, students, and families.
- Excellent communication, time management, and organizational abilities.
Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate interpreting services between students, staff, and peers in classrooms and school activities.
- Support educational goals by facilitating comprehension and participation for students who are Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing.
- Adhere to confidentiality and ethical standards in all interactions.
- Collaborate closely with teachers and support staff to adapt interpreting approaches as needed for individual student needs.
- Participate in IEP meetings and team collaborations to promote student success.
- Remain flexible and responsive within various classroom and school environments.
