Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- National or state interpreter certification preferred (e.g., RID, EIPA)
- Previous experience in K-12 educational settings or interpreting for youth is highly valued
- Knowledge of Deaf culture and the variety of communication needs within the community
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
- Ability to adapt to diverse learning environments and classroom routines
Responsibilities Include:
- Interpret spoken language into ASL (and vice versa) during classroom instruction, assemblies, meetings, and extracurricular activities
- Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and peers
- Support academic engagement and participation for Deaf or Hard of Hearing students
- Collaborate with educators and support staff to adapt materials and ensure accessibility
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards
- Stay up to date with best practices and emerging technology for interpretation
