Job Description

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with fluency in expressive and receptive skills
  • Experience interpreting in educational settings preferred
  • Understanding of Deaf culture and the unique needs of Deaf and hard-of-hearing students
  • Certification or eligibility for state and/or national credentials (such as EIPA, RID, or equivalent, as applicable)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and a positive attitude in a school environment

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret classroom discussions, lectures, and school activities for students who use sign language
  • Bridge communication between students, teachers, staff, and peers in various educational settings
  • Adapt interpreting style to meet individual student needs and diverse educational contexts
  • Support classroom participation and engagement to foster academic growth
  • Assist with communication during meetings, extracurricular activities, and school events as needed
  • Collaborate with educational teams to promote accessible learning opportunities
