Step into a dynamic contract opportunity supporting students in an educational setting as a Sign Language Interpreter specializing in pediatric populations. This position serves children across a range of grade levels, from Pre-K and Kindergarten through Elementary and Middle School. The primary focus is on fostering communication access and inclusion within the classroom, with a strong emphasis on one-to-one support for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with experience in educational interpreting
- Previous work with pediatric clients and school-aged children, especially in Pre-K through Middle School
- Ability to interpret for a variety of classroom activities and adapt language registers as needed
- Certification such as EIPA, RID, or state-level credentials preferred
- Strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills with educators, students, and families
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and supporting student success in an academic setting
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate and age-appropriate sign language interpreting for students on a 1:1 basis
- Facilitate communication between students, teachers, staff, and peers within varied classroom environments
- Support student participation in academic lessons, activities, and social interactions
- Collaborate closely with teachers and related service providers to align interpreting approach with student needs
- Maintain detailed and confidential records as required by educational standards
