Job Description

A full-time Sign Language Interpreter position is available in Gridley, CA, supporting elementary and intermediate students who are deaf or hard of hearing. This onsite contract role, beginning ASAP through May 28, 2026, involves facilitating communication between students, their hearing peers, classroom teachers, and school staff to ensure inclusive educational experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpreting services in classroom and school settings
  • Assist students with academic subjects such as reading, writing, and math
  • Support development of vocational and living skills for students as needed
  • Monitor and assist students during classroom, outdoor, and community activities
  • Collaborate effectively with educators and other personnel to promote student success

Qualifications:

  • Certification by the National Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf, OR
  • A score of 4.0 or higher on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA), ESSE-I/R, or NAD/ACCI assessment
  • Candidates with an EIPA below 4.0 will be considered and referred as ASL Paraprofessionals
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) plus an Associates Degree is also acceptable
  • Experience working in school environments preferred
  • Ability to work onsite full-time, approximately 30 hours per week (6 hours per day)
