Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Certification or licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter (such as EIPA, RID, or state equivalent)
  • Previous experience interpreting in educational environments, preferably K-12
  • Strong understanding of deaf culture and applicable educational accommodations
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to adapt interpreting styles to meet individual student needs

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide interpretation services for students in classroom and school-related activities
  • Facilitate clear and accurate communication between students, teachers, and peers
  • Support students participation in academic, extracurricular, and social settings
  • Modify interpreting techniques based on specific classroom activities and student needs
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries in line with school policies
  • Contribute to Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings as the interpreting specialist
