Job Description

A dynamic opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to provide essential communication support within educational settings. This travel position is based in Gonzales, LA, offering the chance to work directly with students and staff to facilitate inclusive learning environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret conversations, lectures, and classroom activities from spoken language to sign language and vice versa
  • Assist students who are deaf or hard of hearing in understanding instructional material
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to ensure effective communication
  • Adapt interpretation techniques to fit various educational settings and student needs
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism while supporting students in multiple school environments during travel assignments

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and thorough understanding of Deaf culture
  • Experience interpreting in school or educational settings preferred
  • Ability to travel regularly to various school locations within the Gonzales, LA area
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate interactions between students and faculty
  • Certification or licensure in sign language interpretation is advantageous
  • Flexibility, reliability, and sensitivity towards diverse learning environments
