Job Description

This full-time role offers the chance to make a direct impact in the Santa Barbara area, providing essential communication access for students and collaborating with school staff.

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Current and valid Sign Language Interpreter Certification required in California
  • Previous experience in educational or school settings preferred, but not required
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and strong interpreting skills
  • Ability to work on-site during standard school hours, aligning with the academic calendar
  • Strong teamwork skills and a collaborative, student-centered approach
  • Excellent interpersonal communication abilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language and vice versa for students, educators, and staff in classroom and school settings
  • Facilitate communication during lessons, extracurricular activities, meetings, and school-related events
  • Work closely with educators and support staff to help ensure academic content is accessible to deaf and hard-of-hearing students
  • Adapt interpreting style to meet individual student needs and effectively support learning outcomes
  • Maintain professionalism, ethical standards, and confidentiality in all interpreting services
  • Participate in IEP meetings as needed and provide input regarding students communication needs
