This full-time, contract role begins at the start of the 2026-2027 school year and continues through the end of the academic year. Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III certification
- Minimum Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 along with a passing written test score
- Alternate credentials considered if deemed equivalent by the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (VDDHH)
- Proven experience providing sign language interpretation services in a classroom or school environment is highly valued
- Professionalism, adaptability, and a passion for inclusive education
Responsibilities:
- Deliver accurate, clear interpretation between spoken English and American Sign Language to facilitate communication for students, teachers, and staff
- Support students participation in instructional, social, and extracurricular activities
- Foster a positive and accessible learning environment by collaborating closely with education professionals
- Maintain ethical standards and confidentiality in all interactions, respecting the needs of each individual student
- Stay current with interpretation best practices and participate in periodic professional development offerings
