Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III certification
  • Minimum Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 along with a passing written test score
  • Alternate credentials considered if deemed equivalent by the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (VDDHH)
  • Proven experience providing sign language interpretation services in a classroom or school environment is highly valued
  • Professionalism, adaptability, and a passion for inclusive education

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver accurate, clear interpretation between spoken English and American Sign Language to facilitate communication for students, teachers, and staff
  • Support students participation in instructional, social, and extracurricular activities
  • Foster a positive and accessible learning environment by collaborating closely with education professionals
  • Maintain ethical standards and confidentiality in all interactions, respecting the needs of each individual student
  • Stay current with interpretation best practices and participate in periodic professional development offerings
