Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience interpreting in educational settings preferred
- Ability to accurately facilitate communication between deaf/hard-of-hearing students and staff
- Strong understanding of confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet a variety of classroom and school needs
- Commitment to supporting diverse learners in an inclusive environment
- National Interpreter Certification (NIC) or state credential strongly encouraged
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, activities, and meetings for students and staff
- Collaborate with teachers and educational teams to support student learning and engagement
- Foster effective communication between students, staff, and families as needed
- Adjust interpreting strategies to match grade level, subject matter, and diverse student needs
- Participate in IEP meetings or other relevant planning sessions
- Maintain clear, confidential records in line with school protocols
