Job Description
An educational Sign Language Interpreter is needed to support students in a school setting located in Elida, NM. This contract position offers the opportunity to work closely with a preschool student on a 1:1 basis, as well as provide sign language exposure to students from 1st through 8th grades. The role involves facilitating communication in American Sign Language (ASL) to enhance educational access and inclusion.
Position Details:
- Dates: ASAP through May 21, 2026
- Hours: 32 hours per week, Monday through Thursday
- Schedule: 7:45 AM to 4:15 PM
Responsibilities:
- Interpret educational content and classroom discussions using ASL for a preschool student and groups of students in grades 1-8
- Support communication between students, teachers, and staff to promote an inclusive learning environment
- Collaborate with educational staff to ensure appropriate interpretation services are provided
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards and ethics
Qualifications:
- Valid Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) license in New Mexico required
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is essential
- Previous experience interpreting in educational settings preferred
- Strong communication skills and ability to engage with students across multiple grade levels
