Job Description

Make a meaningful difference supporting students as an onsite Sign Language Interpreter for the upcoming school year in the vibrant Elgin, IL area. This full-time contract position places you at the heart of student success, facilitating accessible and inclusive learning environments.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Valid state license or certification as a Sign Language Interpreter.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with a commitment to high standards of interpretation.
  • Meet all local district or state-specific requirements (such as PEL, Para Certification, or mandated experience).
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach within educational settings.
  • Prior experience in a school environment is preferred but not required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver real-time sign language interpreting for students, supporting classroom instruction, activities, and events.
  • Assist in fostering effective communication between educators, staff, students, and families who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Modify interpreting approaches and techniques to ensure understanding and engagement at all grade levels.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical standards in all interactions.
  • Support teachers and staff by providing insights into deaf culture and promoting an inclusive learning atmosphere.
