Job Description
Located in Elgin, IL, this full-time contract position supports an elementary school student as a 1:1 Sign Language Interpreter (SLI). The role is dedicated to providing direct interpretive services and language modeling to a student who is deaf with additional visual impairment. As the student is relatively new to American Sign Language (ASL), the interpreter plays a key role in fostering language development and accessibility.
Responsibilities include:
- Collaborating closely with the educational team to implement strategies that enhance the students visual access and learning experience
- Providing language modeling and interpreting services tailored to the students unique communication needs
- Supporting the student in classrooms and other educational settings throughout the school day
Qualifications:
- Required credentials or certifications as a qualified Sign Language Interpreter
- Experience working with deaf or hard-of-hearing students, especially those new to ASL
- Ability to collaborate with educators and use adaptive strategies to accommodate visual impairments
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to support a supportive learning environment
Job Details:
- Full-time, 5 days per week
- Contract position for the current school year (CSY)
- Caseload of one student
