Qualifications & Desirable Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with demonstrated fluency.
- Current national or state interpreter certification (such as EIPA, RID, or Oklahoma certification credentials).
- Prior experience interpreting in educational or school environments is strongly preferred.
- Understanding of Deaf culture and sensitivity to unique communication needs.
- Ability to adapt interpreting style to various classroom subjects and age groups.
- Strong professionalism, reliability, and commitment to ethical interpreting standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate sign language interpretation between students, staff, and classmates in classroom and other school settings.
- Support communication during instruction, group activities, presentations, assemblies, and extracurricular events.
- Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and other professionals to ensure students are fully included.
- Assist in facilitating student participation and comprehension.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to established codes of professional conduct.
- Proactively communicate any concerns or recommendations regarding student access and engagement.
