Key Qualifications & Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous interpreting experience in educational or school-based settings strongly preferred
- Comfort working with students across various ages and grade levels
- Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws (e.g., IDEA, ADA) regarding special education and interpreting
- Ability to collaborate with teachers, staff, families, and external providers
- RID or EIPA certification is highly desirable
Core Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into ASL (and vice versa) accurately during classroom instruction, group activities, assemblies, and school events
- Facilitate clear and effective communication between students, teachers, and peers
- Maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism at all times
- Assist educators in understanding the unique needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Adapt interpreting style and strategies to fit the setting and age group
- Support inclusion by helping students participate fully in both academic and extracurricular activities
