Seeking a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support communication access in an educational setting in Dudley, MA. This contract position offers the opportunity to work closely with students, educators, and staff to facilitate clear and effective communication for individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa to ensure understanding during classroom instruction and school activities
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and students to provide appropriate communication support throughout the school day
- Assist in meetings, events, and extracurricular activities requiring sign language interpretation
- Maintain confidentiality and follow professional ethical standards
- Adapt interpreting techniques based on context and individual needs
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with strong interpreting skills
- Experience working in educational environments preferred
- Ability to interpret in both one-on-one and group settings
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with Deaf culture and sensitivity to diverse communication needs
