Job Description

Looking to make an impact in education as a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter? A contract opportunity is available for the 26/27 school year, where you will collaborate with another experienced ASL Interpreter to support students at the junior high level. Working closely within the school environment, your role will be vital in fostering accessibility and communication for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students.

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) with strong interpreting abilities.
  • Must hold an Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 4.0 or higher.
  • Previous experience in a school or educational setting is preferred.
  • Comfortable working with junior high school students.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.
  • Approachable, flexible, and responsive to student needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and school functions for Deaf or hard-of-hearing students.
  • Work daily alongside another ASL Interpreter to ensure consistent student support.
  • Adapt interpreting style to meet individual student needs and classroom activities.
  • Facilitate communication between students, staff, and peers to enhance inclusivity.
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
  • Contribute to a positive, supportive learning environment in line with school policies.
