Make a meaningful impact supporting student learning as a skilled Sign Language Interpreter in a dynamic, inclusive high school environment. This contract opportunity for the 2026-2027 school year offers the chance to work closely with a 9th grade student in a behavioral setting, facilitating communication and access to instruction in the classroom. Collaborate with passionate educators and provide essential support as the student transitions back to a traditional school setting following time in a residential program.
Key Qualifications:
- Hold at least one of the four national certifications for Sign Language Interpreters (required)
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) with strong receptive and expressive skills
- Deep understanding of Deaf culture and best practices in accessibility for students with cochlear implants, hearing aids, and ALD devices
- Experience interpreting in educational or behavioral classroom environments preferred
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with sensitivity and discretion
- Flexibility, patience, and commitment to student-centered communication
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction and interactions for a 9th grade student during instructional hours (6.5 hours/day)
- Work closely with general and special education staff to ensure equal access to educational content
- Adapt interpreting methods to meet the unique needs of a student working with multiple hearing-assistance technologies
- Engage in ongoing communication with teachers, support staff, and possibly the students family to facilitate seamless support
- Support students adjustment and confidence as they re-integrate into a traditional school setting
This onsite position runs from August 12, 2026, through May 27, 2027, providing opportunity for meaningful, sustained impact in a supportive school community.
