Qualifications and Preferred Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Experience interpreting in school environments
  • Familiarity with IEPs and educational accommodations is a plus
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Certification or licensure required by state or national organizations
  • Flexibility and adaptability in dynamic school settings

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken language and educational material into sign language
  • Support student engagement in classroom and school activities
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to promote accessible learning
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold student privacy
  • Assist with note-taking or other access services as needed
  • Advocate for student inclusion and provide cultural mediation when appropriate
