Job Description

Step into a rewarding role as a Sign Language Interpreter supporting students in an educational setting near Conover, NC. This full-time, onsite position offers you the chance to contribute to a positive school environment while making a meaningful difference in the lives of students who are deaf or hard of hearing. The position runs Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 2:30pm, totaling 35 hours per week.

Qualifications:

  • Valid licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter in North Carolina
  • EIPA score of 3.5 or higher
  • Alternatively, possession of RID certification qualifies candidates even without an EIPA score
  • Strong command of both American Sign Language (ASL) and English
  • Ability to collaborate with educators, students, and families
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills
  • Previous experience in a school or educational setting is desirable

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret classroom lectures, discussions, and school-related activities for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Facilitate effective communication between students, teachers, staff, and families
  • Provide support during assemblies, meetings, and extracurricular events as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics
  • Adapt interpreting techniques to suit varied learning and communication styles
  • Participate in team meetings and collaborate on student support plans
