A travel opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support educational settings in Columbus, OH. This role involves facilitating communication between Deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their teachers, ensuring accessibility and inclusion within the classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa during classroom instruction, meetings, and school events
- Collaborate with teachers and support staff to provide effective communication access
- Maintain professional and ethical standards in all interpreting situations
- Adapt interpreting style to different educational content and student needs
- Travel to various school locations within the Columbus area as assigned
Desired Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English with a strong ability to interpret both accurately
- Previous experience in educational interpreting preferred
- Knowledge of educational terminology and classroom protocols
- Flexibility and reliability to travel between schools as needed
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Relevant certification or credentials in sign language interpreting is a plus
