Job Description
Experience a rewarding contract opportunity providing sign language interpretation services in an educational setting located near Columbia, SC. As part of a dedicated team of interpreters, you'll support student access to instruction and school activities throughout the academic year. Full-time onsite assignments are available, with potential consideration for virtual work as the school year approaches.
Desired Qualifications & Experience:
- Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI)
- Proficient in educational interpreting practices within school environments
- Achievement of at least a 3.5 score on the EIPA Written portion
- Effective collaboration skills for working with educators, support staff, and families
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and upholding student privacy
- Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and flexibility to adapt to various classroom needs
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and members of the school community
- Interpret classroom lessons, discussions, student activities, and school functions with accuracy and cultural sensitivity
- Participate in team meetings, IEP discussions, and ongoing professional development sessions as needed
- Support the development of student independence and engagement in school life
- Maintain comprehensive records and adhere to educational policies and interpreter ethics
