Step into a rewarding contract position working closely with students and staff, utilizing your expertise in American Sign Language as an Educational Sign Language Interpreter. This role runs from ASAP through May 21, 2026, and offers a stable, Monday through Thursday schedule, 32 hours per weekproviding meaningful one-on-one interpreting for a preschool student as well as supporting sign language exposure for students in 1st through 8th grades. Your communication skills will make a direct impact on students learning experiences and help foster an inclusive environment.
Qualifications and Experience Sought:
- Valid SLI (Sign Language Interpreter) licensure in New Mexico
- Demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience in educational settings preferred
- Ability to engage with young children and adapt communication styles
- Professionalism, collaboration, and strong interpersonal abilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into ASL and vice versa for a preschool student in the classroom
- Provide sign language exposure, support, and vocabulary immersion for students in grades 1-8
- Collaborate with teachers and other staff to ensure access for deaf and hard-of-hearing students
- Maintain ethical standards, confidentiality, and cultural sensitivity in all interactions
- Assist in developing resources and strategies for greater language inclusion
