Job Description

This opportunity is ideal for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter looking to support communication access in an educational setting. The role involves providing interpreting services for students and staff in schools, ensuring effective communication and fostering an inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Interpreting conversations, lectures, and classroom activities between sign language and spoken English.
  • Facilitating communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and teachers, classmates, and other school personnel.
  • Assisting with hearings, meetings, and school events requiring sign language interpretation.
  • Adhering to professional standards and confidentiality guidelines.
  • Traveling between schools within the Cicero, IL area to support multiple locations as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with strong interpreting skills.
  • Experience interpreting in educational settings is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of deaf culture and best practices in classroom interpretation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility to travel between schools within the region.
  • Relevant certification or credentials preferred but not mandatory.
