An opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to provide vital communication support within educational settings. This travel role is based in Chula Vista, CA, and involves working across various schools to facilitate effective communication for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, ensuring their full participation in classroom activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa during classroom instruction, meetings, and school events
- Collaborate with teachers, students, and support staff to foster an inclusive learning environment
- Assist in preparing materials and adjusting communication methods tailored to individual student needs
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
- Provide support during school-related activities beyond standard classroom hours as required
Desired Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language with demonstrated interpreting experience in educational settings
- Familiarity with Deaf culture and awareness of diverse communication needs
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with educators and students
- Flexibility and willingness to travel between schools within the region
- Relevant certification or formal training in sign language interpretation preferred
Location: Opportunities will be primarily in Chula Vista, CA, with travel to surrounding schools as needed.
