Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with strong interpretation and transliteration skills
  • Previous experience interpreting in educational settings is highly valued
  • Completion of an interpreter training program and/or possession of national interpreter certification is preferred
  • Ability to accurately convey educational content and student interactions across diverse age groups
  • Professionalism, discretion, and strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated reliability, adaptability, and a collaborative mindset

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Provide real-time sign language interpretation for students during classroom instruction, assemblies, meetings, and other school functions
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to adapt communication methods as needed for student comprehension and engagement
  • Assist in fostering an inclusive learning environment that supports the academic and social success of all students
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and educational matters at all times
  • Support both one-on-one and group interpreting as required, adjusting to the classrooms evolving needs
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to developing effective student support strategies, when necessary
