A full-time 1:1 Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) position is available at a school in Chicago, IL. This contract role requires supporting one deaf student with an additional visual impairment who is relatively new to American Sign Language (ASL). The position demands close collaboration with the educational team to implement strategies that enhance the student's visual access and provide language modeling to support ASL development.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Sign Language Interpreter credentials or certifications are required.
- Experience working collaboratively with educational teams.
- Ability to provide language modeling for a student new to ASL.
- Sensitivity to visual impairments and adapting interpretation accordingly.
Position Details:
- Full-time schedule: 5 days per week.
- Caseload: One deaf student with additional visual impairment.
- Primary responsibility includes facilitating communication access and supporting language acquisition.
