Job Description

This contract opportunity starts at the beginning of the 26/27 school year and runs through the end of the academic year, providing consistent, full-time hours (37.5 per week) in a vibrant school environment near Carrollton, VA.

Your role will empower students who are deaf or hard of hearing to access curriculum, classroom instruction, and social activities, supporting inclusive education and meaningful communication.

Qualifications:

  • Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III.
  • Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of at least 3.5 and a passing score on the written exam.
  • Alternatively, other credentials considered equivalent by the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (VDDHH).
  • Proven experience interpreting in K-12 school settings highly valued.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to different classroom environments and student needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken English into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa during classes, assemblies, meetings, and school activities.
  • Facilitate communication between students, teachers, staff, and peers.
  • Support and advocate for students access to educational content and participation in school life.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential documentation as required.
  • Collaborate with the educational team to provide feedback and ensure appropriate accommodations.
