Help shape the learning experience for high school students by supporting accessible communication in an onsite contract opportunity as a Sign Language Interpreter in a school environment near Burlington, IL. This position is designed for passionate interpreters who excel at bridging communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their peers and educators. Key Qualifications:
- Current and valid Illinois Sign Language Interpreter license required
- State and district qualifications, with adherence to any additional requirements
- Experience working within an educational or high-school setting strongly preferred
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and understanding of relevant interpretive practices
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, reliability, and adaptability in a school setting
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide interpretation services to high school students during instructional hours
- Accurately and sensitively translate spoken communication into sign language, and vice versa, to support full classroom participation
- Foster a supportive and inclusive environment for students, educators, and families
- Collaborate with educators, support staff, and other interpreters to ensure consistency and quality of service
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to school policies and code of conduct
