Desired Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Hold a current interpreter certification or relevant credentials, where required by state standards
- Previous interpreting experience in a K-12 educational setting preferred
- Ability to accurately and impartially convey spoken information into ASL and vice versa
- Strong sense of professionalism and confidentiality
- Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Adaptable to varied classroom environments, ages, and subjects
Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, activities, and school-wide events for Deaf or hard-of-hearing students
- Serve as a communication liaison between students, teachers, and peers
- Support academic participation and engagement for students by clearly relaying information
- Assist with IEP meetings, parent conferences, assemblies, and extracurricular events as needed
- Maintain cultural sensitivity and ethical standards of interpreting
- Collaborate with educational teams to address student needs and goals
- Monitor equipment, tools, and technology related to interpreting services
