Step into a rewarding opportunity supporting young learners as a skilled Sign Language Interpreter in a vibrant elementary school setting near Bremerton, WA. This contract role focuses on fostering communication and inclusion for D/deaf and Hard of Hearing (D/HH) students, working alongside educators and staff for the 2025-2026 academic year.
You will play a key role facilitating both sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpretation in classrooms and across the school, ensuring access in compliance with IDEA, ADA, and relevant legal standards. Beyond interpreting, you may also support instructional activities and help empower students on their educational journey.
Key Qualifications:
- Completion of an Interpreter Training Program (verifiable)
- Achieved a 4.0 or higher on the EIPA or RID assessment (per Washington State law)
- Valid Washington State Drivers License or similar mobility evidence
- Previous experience in a school-based role strongly preferred
Primary Responsibilities:
- Accurately interpret classroom instruction and discussions between D/HH students, teachers, and others
- Support D/HH students participation by interpreting in various academic and community settings
- Collaborate closely with teachers and support staff to meet students individual needs
- Adhere to legal and ethical best practices regarding confidentiality and accessibility
- Assist with certain instructional tasks under the guidance of certified teachers
