Qualifications & Desired Skills:

  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) with the ability to interpret accurately in real-time.
  • Certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or an equivalent credential is highly preferred.
  • Previous experience in a K-12 educational environment is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the capability to adapt interpretation style to various age groups and subjects.
  • Professionalism, confidentiality, and a passion for supporting students with hearing needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide interpretation services for students, staff, and teachers in classroom settings, extracurricular activities, and school events.
  • Foster understanding and engagement among students who are deaf or hard of hearing, facilitating full participation in school life.
  • Collaborate closely with special education teams, classroom teachers, and families to ensure tailored support for individual student needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of services provided and communicate any concerns or observations with the appropriate school personnel.
  • Stay current with best practices and advances in educational interpreting, participating in professional development as needed.
