Job Description

A skilled Sign Language Interpreter is needed to provide communication support for students and staff in an educational environment. This travel position is based in Biddeford, ME, and involves working directly within school settings to facilitate clear and effective communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their peers, educators, and other personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa during classroom instruction, school events, and meetings
  • Ensure accurate, impartial, and professional interpretation in a variety of educational settings
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to support students access to curriculum and participation in school activities
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
  • Adapt interpretation techniques to meet the needs of different age groups and learning environments
  • Travel to designated school locations as required

Qualifications/Desired Experience:

  • Proven experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in an educational context
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English
  • Knowledge of educational terminology and procedures
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while managing travel requirements
  • Relevant certification or licensure in Sign Language Interpreting is highly preferred
