An exciting opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support students and staff in an educational setting. This role is travel-based, providing the chance to work in a dynamic school environment located in Baton Rouge, LA. The ideal candidate will be passionate about facilitating communication and ensuring equal access for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) for students, teachers, and staff during classroom instruction and school activities
  • Facilitate clear and accurate communication between Deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their peers or educators
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff to integrate interpreting services into lesson plans
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times while adhering to interpreter ethics and standards
  • Adapt to various educational settings and needs as you travel between assignments

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with strong interpreting skills
  • Experience working in K-12 or higher education environments preferred
  • Knowledge of Deaf culture and awareness of educational accommodations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel to different school locations within the Baton Rouge area
